A clear Class 7 guide to how leaves use light, water and carbon dioxide to prepare food.
Nutrition in Plants: lesson notes
Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants prepare their own food using sunlight. Chlorophyll in the leaves captures light energy.
The plant takes in carbon dioxide through tiny openings called stomata and absorbs water through its roots. Light energy helps combine these materials to form glucose, while oxygen is released.
Remember the process as four essentials: sunlight, chlorophyll, carbon dioxide and water.
